But one of the things I admire about Julianne Moore is that as fantastic an actress as she is (and I cannot believe she hasn't won an Oscar yet), she is not afraid or embarrassed to take her clothes off for a movie. I agree the nudity here is not up to her standards: at 45 minutes or so that right nipple peaks out from the bath for a few seconds; at about 58 minutes (her first bed scene with Mark Ruffalo), judicious use of the pause button might reveal a breast, and when she is interrupted by Luis the gardener, she is full "backal" on her knees, so we can see most of her lovely ass. Despite a couple more bed/nude scenes, I was unable to detect any of Ms. Moore's lovely attributes, but I hope that this "no nudity after 40" hangup is relegated to the dustbin of history if we can see Julianne Moore and others (Diane Keaton in Something's Gotta Give comes to mind) showing us that women over 40 (and even over 50!) can be beautiful and sexy as well!

There are a couple other nude scenes in the movie, but if you're looking for good breast shots of Julianne, the middle scene (about forty minutes into the movie) is the best by far. Put this scene together with Short Cuts and Boogie Nights and you have a collage of some of the finest movie by a mainstream actress that I have seen.

Julianne is very beautiful and she shows her breats repeatedly in many sex scenes in this film. However the movie is shot very drab and ugly, engulfing the feeling of wartime Europe. The film is also very slow and unrewarding for almost everybody except for the biggest fans of depressing romantic tragedy. Her nudity isn't very erotic either. I would recomend Short Cuts instead for much (!) better lower nudity ... but I suppose this film will suffice for those who must see more of Julianne.

One of the best actresses in Hollywood and a rising star Julianne has always been embarrassed by this "exploitive" nudity in this film that she did as a favor to Robert Altman (a great director).
