Rapidshare still seems to be working.

I like Rapidshare, I just wish they would quit changing how they do things every 6 months or so... not that I'm complaining about the last couple of changes :) :

- up until maybe September or so, it was the Rapidshare we all know and hate. I especially hated what seemed to be escalating wait times - the more you download in a given period, the longer you have to wait for the next one.

- I think it started maybe september-ish, I dunno why, suddenly everything was 'free' without even a premium account or any 'rapids' or anything. No wait times, no captchas, nothing, There didn't appear to be even a DL limit - and, believe me, I did my best to 'stress test' this; The ONLY limitation seemed to be that you couldn't download multiple files simultaneously for free.

- Today there were wait times again. I DLed a dozen or so files totalling about 2 GB at 100-200 MB each. Randomly either a 20 second or 120 second wait times. So far, no limit.

Yeah, I've noticed that, too. Still, beggars can't be choosers, and all that. Considering how slow Oron downloads (for me, at least), it pretty much evens out.

Some of the guys in news forums are predicting Oron could go Filesonic way by next week.

Latest - "At the moment all Profesional accounts in Oron are passing an annual inspection. After the inspection we will do an verdict about each single account . Your Stats will be count while inspecting "

Maybe it's time to consider peer-2-peer file sharing, like eDonkey and Bit Torrent?

with so many people in the USA using this site:
why do posters still use: UL?
They have banned USA users; solution go through a proxy but then we cannot use Jdownloader or a similar download manger. We have to do it manually.

Just a question.

Depends what kind of "proxy".

A good VPN won't get in your way. You can surf and download with all the same tools that you would use without one. Some VPN's cost money, but you don't need to spend it. The free ones work very nicely.

Best free VPN available is Raptor at
www.raptorvpn.com

Only down side is, its server is only in the US. So that's great if you are outside the US and want to access Hulu (for example), but it doesn't help us if we're in the US and want to get to something like turbobit.net.

But there are free VPN's out there that can make you look like you are in Britain or France.

New ones spring up all the time. See
www.vpnsurfing.com
to find out about them.

http://freeuploads.fr looks promising as a file sharing site.

At least for now all uploads and downloads are free. And if you are willing to install the Divx Web Player, you can stream the files without downloading.

===========

Edit: Site seems to be down. Too bad. It looked very promising.

Can anyone tell me why uploaders have all gone to ul.to and Rapidgator now that Oron is gone? Rapidgator has always been pure crap (I won't even try downloading anything larger than 25 MB because the d/l ALWAYS craps out) and ul.to is getting just as bad - in spite of installing captcha and limits, they're buckling under the strain. Are they paying big bucks to uploaders or do people just lack the imagination to look elsewhere?

Hell no! Both Rapidgator and Bayfiles fail to download any files at all. And both link to potential viruses. I suggest staying far away from both.

One that seems to be reasonably friendly these days is Hotfile.com. Freeloaders have to wait only 30 minutes between downloads. And there is no Captcha.

Gamefront is great...completely free and I usually get 2-3mbps download speeds.
tusfiles is free also, not as fast but several hundred kbs a second.
mediafire is good for files under 100mbs.

I think the best option would be not to demand...but ask that uploaders upload to mirrorcreator, which then uploads the files to multiple sources giving downloaders an option. I know rapidgator and ul.to are popular here, but the downside is if you don't have premium they are very slow and lots or restrictions. Just a thought.
