In simplest terms, nothing is "cut out". Most films are shot in various degrees of widescreen. But when a film is pan-and-scanned, typically information is lost from the sides of the frame, but gained at the top and bottom (thus creating more of a square picture). I don't have a source for you (maybe there is even a thread here somewhere that discusses it), but there are plenty of films that have more nudity in the fullscreen version than in the original widescreen.
Mind you, this is not to say that fullscreen is the better format. It certainly isn't. But on that rare occasion, fullscreen can carry this advantage regarding nudity.
